The short answer
What stage lighting includes
Stage lighting lights the people on the stage. A complete stage rig combines front, back and side light so performers are visible, washes for even coverage, Lekos for precise specials, and moving heads, pixel bars, strobes and haze for concert-style energy — all programmed so the look changes with the performance.
That is a different job from event lighting, which sets the look of the whole room, and from a DJ lighting package built around a dance floor. When an event has a band, a singer, a performance or a keynote, the stage needs its own plan.

Front, back and side light
The foundation of any stage look. Front light makes faces readable from the audience and on camera, back light separates performers from the backdrop, and side light gives shape. Without these, colourful effects look impressive but nobody on stage can actually be seen.
Stage washes
Even coverage across a stage for bands, speakers and ensembles, with colour that can shift between songs or segments while keeping faces properly lit rather than tinted.
Lekos & Source Four-style fixtures
Ellipsoidal profile spots for the precise work: a sharp pool on a podium or a soloist, a shaped edge on the stage, or a gobo pattern on a backdrop. The theatrical tool for controlled light rather than a general wash.
Moving heads, pixel bars & strobes
Up to 24 moving-head spots, beams and washes for movement and energy, pixel bars for linear chases along truss or the stage edge, and strobes used as accents on big moments rather than all night.
Truss & positioning
Truss, ground support and stands to get fixtures to the right height and angle. Much of what makes a stage look professional is simply that the lights are in the right place for the performers and the sightlines.
Atmosphere & effects

What to plan before booking stage lighting
- Stage size and layout — width, depth, height and where performers, instruments and any screens sit
- Rigging and ceiling — ceiling height, whether the venue allows overhead rigging, or whether ground-supported truss is needed
- Power — what the venue can provide near the stage and where cable can run safely
- Run of show — set times, walk-ons, speeches and the moments that need a lighting change
- Cameras — whether the event is filmed, livestreamed or shown on an LED wall, which changes how the front light is set
- Venue rules — load-in windows, in-house AV requirements (common at hotels — see hotel AV) and approval for haze, lasers or effects
Pricing is customized to the stage and the production, so there is no fixed rate on this page. Lighting is usually quoted together with sound and staging when a live act is involved.

Rigging, effects & venue approval
Overhead rigging, haze, lasers and other effects are available subject to venue approval, fire-safety approval, local rules and site conditions. We plan rigs against the venue’s rigging points, ceiling height and load rules, and we do not promise that a venue will permit any particular rig or effect. Stage lighting rental questions
What is the difference between stage lighting and event lighting?
Event lighting sets the look of a room — uplighting, colour on the walls, dance-floor effects. Stage lighting is about the people on the stage: making faces visible from the audience and on camera, separating performers from the background, and giving the performance moments that change with the music or the programme. Most productions with a live act need both, planned together so the stage does not disappear into the room or overpower it.
What is a Leko light?
A Leko is an ellipsoidal reflector spotlight, also called a profile spot, and 'Source Four' is the name many people use for the style. It throws a sharp-edged, controllable beam that can be shaped with shutters, focused hard or soft, and fitted with a gobo pattern. On a stage it is used for precise work — a clean pool of light on a podium, a special on a soloist, or a shaped edge — where a wash fixture would spill everywhere.
Do you provide lighting for live bands and concerts?
Yes — concert-style stage lighting for live bands, singers, musicians and performers at weddings, private events, corporate events and showcases. That includes front and back light for the performers, stage washes, Lekos for specials, moving heads, pixel bars and strobes for the energy, truss or stands to position it all, and haze so the beams read. We also work alongside the live musicians we coordinate and our DJs, so the lighting can be cued to the set.
Who programs and runs the lighting?
Our team, in-house, on grandMA3 lighting programming and control. Looks and cues are built for your stage and your run of show rather than run from a generic preset, and an operator stays with the rig for events where cues need to follow a live performance or a programme.
Can the lighting work on camera and livestream?
It should be planned for it. Cameras need more even, consistent front light on faces than the eye does, and saturated colour or heavy haze can read differently on video than in the room. If the event is being filmed, streamed or projected onto a screen, tell us early so the stage look is balanced for both the audience and the camera.
Can you hang lighting from the ceiling or use truss?
We use truss, ground support and stands to put fixtures where they need to be, and plan overhead rigging against the venue's rigging points, ceiling height and load rules. Whether anything can be hung from a venue's structure is the venue's decision and may require its approval or its own riggers; ground-supported truss is the usual alternative where overhead rigging is not permitted.
Can I use lasers or haze with stage lighting?
Often, but not everywhere. Haze is what makes beams visible and is usually part of a concert-style look; lasers are available for productions where they fit. Both are subject to venue approval, fire-safety approval, local rules, placement and site conditions, so they are confirmed per event — see our haze and fog page for the details.
How much does stage lighting rental cost?
Stage lighting is quoted per production rather than from a price list. The main drivers are the stage size, the number and type of fixtures, whether truss or rigging is involved, programming and operator time, and how many days the rig is in place.
